Project Engineer - Gas Insulated Switchgear
Our client is a leader in global infrastructure development. They provide engineering design and remediation, construction, procurement, program management, and technology solutions for the environmental, land, water, wastewater, energy, and power markets of the Americas, Europe, Middle East, India, Asia and the Pacific Rim.
They are currently looking to add an experienced Project Engineer to their staff to support the Upper Columbia Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Project in the Vancouver, BC area.
Responsibilities:
- Accountable to Project Manager.
- Manages the GIS engineering task and resources.
- Responsible to ensure that all engineering resources and support services are available to provide sound and competent assessment and input for technical alternatives, engineering designs, bid evaluations, quality assurance, commissioning, cost estimates and preparation of technical scope of service and specifications.
- Leads large, complex team through challenging project assignments.
- Supports project management responsibilities.
- Ensure that the GIS Engineering Task is safely developed and implemented on time and on budget and that it meets the Statement of Objective and all users' requirements.
- Prepare for and facilitate Engineering Team Meetings for the engineering staff on the GIS Project.
- Manage and direct the day-to-day work of the engineering staff on the GIS Project.
- Support Integrated Team Program Management Office activities.
- Participating in other project and program meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/ Mechanical/Civil Engineering as well as a minimum of 10 years of experience related to large ($25M+) electrical/heavy equipment/utility projects is required.
- Must be registered as Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC or immediately eligible for registration.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical direction; manage projects of varying complexity and plan and manage resources.
- Ability to find engineering solutions that add value, address competing interests at least life cycle cost, and to reach consensus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and negotiating skills.
- Well developed problem resolution, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational, supervisory and planning skills.
- The applicant should be familiar with engineering design and analysis software.
- A valid driver's license as travel throughout the province will occasionally be required.
- The candidate must be creative, self reliant and able to research information within and outside of BC Hydro to perform the work with limited assistance.
- Continuing professional development in one or more of the specialty areas will be an asset.
