PROGRAM DIRECTOR (Vancouver, BC)

JOB SUMMARY
The Program Director position in the Center for Leadership Initiatives, Inc. (CLI) Vancouver, BC, Canada office is an opportunity to contribute to Jewish life and non-profit leadership while refining professional skills sets in a collaborative environment. The Program Director is a senior director level position and is responsible for the overall management, design and implementation of leadership and professional development programs with exposure to a constituency that includes a growing network of creative individuals working in the Jewish community around the world. The Program Director will coordinate a program portfolio and design and implement specific projects the Board of Directors of CLI decides to pursue in its effort to support current and emerging Jewish communal leaders. The Program Director is primarily responsible for working with an American population, including but not limited to: executive directors, mid-level managers and young professionals working in Jewish national non-profit organizations, as well as social entrepreneurs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Program Director must be able to perform each of the following essential functions:
1. General Program Management
a. Manage a portfolio of current programs and others that are in various stages of development
i. Supervise in-house staff and consultants responsible for specific program design and delivery.
ii. Play a central role in program design and delivery,
b. Liaise with CLI’s organizational partners
c. Coach and guide CLI program participants
2. Program Specific Responsibilities
CLI believes that all program staff must have direct contact with the field through program design and facilitation in order to remain connected to CLI’s mission, values and methodologies. Thus, in addition to coordinating a program portfolio, the Program Director will have direct program design and facilitation responsibilities utilizing a variety of training modalities for existing CLI programs as well as others currently in various stages of development (see www.leadingup.org).
3. General Writing and Research
a. Produce written and other materials (articles, blog postings, training materials, etc.)
b. Network with experts in the non-Jewish non-profit and corporate sectors to increase CLI’s learning around cutting edge tools and approaches to professional development, facilitation, networking and entrepreneurship.
c. Seek out, review and synthesize relevant information regarding trends, events, and other aspects of culture and community that affect CLI’s target audience.
4. Other Functions
a. Supervise staff, offering task-specific and broader guidance to support individual and team growth
b. Participate in team-wide organizational planning and program development
c. Multi-task in a variety of contexts and programs
d. Represent CLI at meetings, conferences and events and conduct site visits as necessary
e. Uphold and promote CLI’s mission and values
f. Regular and punctual attendance is required of all employees as it is necessary for individual effectiveness as well as for maximizing the impact of the work group.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
The following general qualifications are representative of the high level of demonstrated skills, maturity, judgment and ability required of all employees of CLI to work with a wide range of constituencies:
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to develop cooperative working relationships with supervisory personnel, co-workers, colleagues, current and potential grantees, other grantor organizations and the general public.
• High degree of flexibility in order to achieve organizational objectives and meet CLI’s demands/needs.
• An ability to understand and interpret pertinent policies and procedures clearly and accurately, especially those requiring all CLI employees to maintain the highest level of confidentiality with regard to business and personal matters of Samson, CLI, its trustees and Associates.
• Excellent judgment, an ability to exercise discretion and tact in difficult or confidential situations and an ability to project a positive, professional image to the public.
• P/C skills (with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as a thorough knowledge of: (a) modern office practices and procedures; and (b) the use of office machines and equipment. Proficiency in website oriented skills would be beneficial.
• The ability to travel and drive to locations in North America and abroad, including possessing a valid passport and driver’s license.
Also, because CLI anticipates maintaining a small core staff for the foreseeable future, the Program Director must function productively in a non-bureaucratic environment, in which a wide variety of tasks is expected of each employee and the ability to work collegially is extremely important.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
The Program Director must have the following specific qualifications:
• A Graduate degree in a related discipline, required;
• Documented experience in design and facilitation of group activities, required;
• Analytical and research abilities necessary to plan and implement programs, collect and evaluate data, and identify opportunities to utilize CLI resources effectively;
• Understanding of community dynamics and familiarity with national and international Jewish institutions and young adult culture; and
• Demonstrated administrative, strategic and leadership skills and qualities, including the ability to develop and adhere to realistic timelines and implement action plans.
• An ability to conduct formal presentations.
• A background in Judaic text, informal/formal Jewish education and integrated Jewish curricula is required.
PERSONAL QUALITIES
Among the personal qualities required of all CLI employees are:
• A commitment to the philosophy, mission and values of CLI, an understanding of the proper role of staff in a foundation and a willingness to work as a team player for the good of CLI.
• An ability to treat partners, participants in CLI programs and all others with dignity, cour¬tesy and respect without the appearance of condescension or other objectionable tactics to which people in positions of power sometimes resort.
• An ability to work with diverse groups as indicated by good listening and communication skills, a balanced and reasoned approach to problems, an ability to inspire trust and confi¬dence, a flexibility in attitude and an openness to differing points of view.
• A strong work ethic and capacity to complete assignments in a timely, organized and effi¬cient manner.
