Senior Manager of Software Development (Calgary)

Position Summary:
The Senior Manager of Software Development will manage the continuing development of a number of e-learning products. This includes working with the product manager, CTO and development director to make decisions on release content and managing the team and schedules for delivery of that content.
Responsibilities:
•The Sr. Manager of SW Development will work with and manage first level software development managers in the day to day development efforts to include product planning, developing requirement documents, scheduling, and developing technical product specifications.
•Coordinate a number of simultaneous projects with different teams in a fast paced environment to include, but not limited to product management to assist in the creation of product requirement documents, developing product engineering specifications and executing/delivering engineering specifications to insure product marketing requirements are met.
•Lead team to a successful product deliverable by cooperatively working together on product features and prioritization of software development change requests.
Requirements:
•Strong educational background in software development (minimum BSc. (CS) equivalent or better).
•10+ years of project leadership/management experience.
•Strong experience in software engineering processes, tools, and methodologies.
•Enthusiastic, willing to work closely with teams from varying departments: development, QA, support, services, operations, sales, marketing.
•Able to work with customers, partners and vendors.
•Project Management skills – planning, reporting, risk management.
•PMP certification would be an asset.
•Experience with managing the development of commercial software projects would be a definite asset.
•Very Strong interpersonal and reporting skills.
•Working knowledge of various development processes.
•Understanding of Java/HTML development.
•Understanding of various OS platforms: Windows, Mac, Solaris, Linux.
•Understanding of networking concepts as well as firewalls and proxies.
•Understanding of web server technologies: Apache, IIS, Tomcat,
•Understanding of SQL database technologies.
•Ability to define & work to schedules, be self directed
•Understanding of e-learning space or interest in it
