Summary
AltaLink - Growing with Alberta

When your job is keeping the lights on, you look at things differently. Everyone expects the lights to come on when we flick the switch. But how do we do it? Through technology and innovation; creativity and collaboration. Those are the qualities we embody at AltaLink, and we're looking for people who share these qualities.

AltaLink is Alberta's electric transmission leader, providing 85 per cent of the Province's population with the electricity they need. In Alberta, transmission infrastructure will need to grow to keep pace with the demand for electricity which has increased to meet the needs of the economy.

Join the company named “Best Place to Work” in the Energy/Oil and Gas division for 2008 by Calgary Inc Magazine and that encourages 'the power to grow, create, play and choose'. Ongoing training and development, competitive compensation and benefits, a flexible work environment, and a culture that supports work/life balance, are some of the features of working at AltaLink.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a results-oriented individual, a strong team player and individual contributor; who is passionate about working for a dynamic, fast-paced company that strives to develop its people through exposure to a broad range of experiences and positions. Reporting to the Director, Internal Audit, you will carry out activities designed to improve financial reporting and the overall system of internal controls within AltaLink. You will be part of a team that evaluates the effectiveness of the company's risk management, control and governance processes.

You will also be required to contribute to value-added recommendations and advice to management for improvements to operations. You are comfortable dealing with people across the company -- from field employees to senior management. You have strong interpersonal skills and excel at listening, interviewing and making presentations.
This position presents a unique opportunity to learn AltaLink’s operations and gain valuable experiences including working with senior management. We are looking for an ambitious candidate who will be interested in pursuing more senior financial roles in the Corporate Finance department or across the company after several months.

Responsibilities
You will participate in assessing the adequacy of the design of controls and will test whether the company’s disclosure and internal controls and procedures are operating effectively. In addition, you will perform consulting assignments, compliance and operational reviews and audits.

Other responsibilities include:

Planning examinations and drafting reports for small to medium sized assurance assignments and management requested consulting projects.

Developing procedures focused on known risks to AltaLink's governance, operations and information systems.

Assisting in the executing large and/or complex examinations.

Assessing the operation of the company’s policies, guidelines and procedures and systems designed to comply with applicable governmental laws and regulations.

Reviewing the effectiveness and relevance of control processes and systems with a view to optimizing the company's resources.

Documenting test exceptions and, with assistance, making appropriate recommendations in reports to help managers across the company strengthen established processes and correct significant weaknesses.

Discussing test exceptions with operational employees and mid-management.

Utilizing new and existing reporting tools to make data available for review and control.

Participating in special projects as required.

Qualifications
Undergraduate university degree in Commerce, ideally Accounting or Finance major.

CA, CMA, CGA, CPA or CIA designation (or working towards).

A minimum of three years working experience in auditing or in a related field.

Strong oral and written communication skills to facilitate dealings with management and operations personnel.

Excellent problem solving and organizational skills, as well as a team player dedicated to high quality results.

Demonstrated time management skills to meet deadlines as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.

Knowledge of NI 52-109/Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and IFRS would be useful (but are not pre-requisites).
