Legal Assistant - Family Law
at RSG Recruiting in Calgary
If you are talented in providing unprecedented service, are enthusiastic and a team player, we are looking for you! We are currently looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Family Law department in Calgary and invite you to review the job description.
Duties & Responsibilities
•Daily correspondence, document preparation (including divorce applications), dicta-typing, drafting and filing court documents;
•Compile and manage litigation documents;
•File preparation and management;
•Book meetings, court dates, discoveries, mediations, and adjournments;
•Initial handling of referral calls;
•Arrange telephone / office and court appointments;
•Greet and act as a liaison between clients and lawyer;
•Prepare binders, open / close and diarize files;
•Send out documents for searches and filings;
•Conduct searches and carry out investigations through internet and other means;
•Liaise with legal assistants, paralegals and other lawyers;
•Liaise with clients on file progress;
•Other legal duties as required.
Knowledge, Qualities & Experience Required
•Minimum of 4-6 years' experience in a Legal Administrative Assistant position;
•Formal Legal Administrative Assistant (Secretary) education and training an asset;
•Intermediate PC skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.);
•Extensive knowledge of legal procedures is required;
•Strong understanding and familiarity with various litigation legal precedents and procedures;
•Must have thorough understanding family law processes and documentation;
•Knowledge of Family Law Practice Notes;
•Knowledge of Notice to Disclose requirements and the ability to collect and organize relevant materials;
•Able to ensure utmost confidentiality and use of discretion at all times;
•Dedicated to providing quality service to clients and consistently meet expectations by providing service beyond expectations;
•Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills with ability to listen effectively, respond appropriately, and maintain mutual comfort level while relating to a diverse group of individuals;
•Strong ability to perform well and be unfailingly diplomatic in a high pressure environment with multiple internal and external clients;
•Able to remain productive within time-sensitive and fast-paced environment;
•Excellent organizational and time management skills;
•Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to visualize and deliver creative solutions;
•Ability to multitask, establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives under minimal supervision; and
•Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with all staff.
