Position Title: Substation Equipment Engineer
Employment Status: Term
Location: Calgary, Alberta

Summary
NOTE: This is a 1 year term position.

An opportunity currently exists for a Substation Equipment Engineer in the Stations group within the Asset Management department. This role requires a progressive individual who has extensive technical expertise in the maintenance of substation equipment and proven leadership skills.

This individual must be comfortable with being able to set standards, develop innovative solutions, mentor junior staff and challenge the status quo.

Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Manager, Substations this individual will be accountable for Substation facilities and equipment in the areas of:

Providing technical support in determining the health of substation major equipment by reviewing and accepting substation equipment maintenance records and liaising directly with Field Maintenance personnel.

Recommending repair or replacement options for defective equipment. This would normally include replacing with like-for-like or new innovative equipment. These decisions are largely driven by budget and time implementation considerations.

Supporting the Asset Analyst in setting the priority of maintenance activities to be performed.

Supporting the team in developing annual Capital replacement and Operating maintenance budgets and producing the corresponding implementation plans.

Assisting in Root Cause Failure analysis for failed substation equipment.

Recommending changes to existing maintenance plans and test standards to extend the life of the assets.

Analyzing families of equipment for changes to maintenance and replacement programs.

Introducing new, equipment based on world-class practices in innovative design

Reviewing Design Plans for new substations and equipment additions for conformity to existing transmission standards.
Recommends changes to the design standards.

Produces specifications for the acquisition of new equipment.

Provides Engineering support to groups internal to AltaLink.

Ensures that all substation equipment standards and practices are up to date, reflect industry practices and comply with all regulations.

Ensures that all equipment records are up to date.

Provides maintenance training to Field staff.

Provides recommendations for long term strategies and direction for substation designs and equipment.

Takes a leadership role in resolving technical issues.

Qualifications
Must have an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree.

Must have APEGGA membership or eligibility for membership.

Must have 4 years of Electrical Utility experience with operations and maintenance of substation high voltage equipment; substation design experience would be an asset.

Understanding of maintenance and operating practices around substations.

Strong computer skills. Experience in SAP would be an asset.

Proven track record of producing, innovative and improved productivity solutions.

Experience developing standards, functional specifications and test procedures.

Knowledge of applicable standards such as CSA, IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards and functional specifications.

Strong interpersonal skills complimented by strong verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to make independent decisions.Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously.
