Summary
AltaLink’s System Operations Department currently has an opening for a Manager, Outage Scheduling. This role focuses on leading a group of technical experts responsible for planning and coordinating power system outages to facilitate work on AltaLink’s power system. This position is a permanent full time position based out of the Calgary head office reporting to the Director, System Operations.

Candidates must have several years of power system operations experience. You will understand the components of a transmission system, how it operates and how the various subsystems work, (protection, control, reclosing, etc.) coupled with EMS SCADA system knowledge. You also bring to the table experience in evaluating and mitigating power system operational risks through effective planning and coordination with stakeholders, implementing and continuously improving processes and ensuring work is executed efficiently and accurately. You are a strong supporter of teams, enjoy a challenging work environment and are known for your well-developed technical and leadership abilities.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership and direction to the Outage Scheduling group by:

Ensuring the Outage Scheduling team has the necessary tools, training and information available to them to successfully coordinate outages and manage power system risk.

Working with internal and external customers to develop a common understanding of operational issues to support the ongoing coordination of outages and procedural improvements.

Enhancing internal and external working processes.

Providing technical and process support to the Outage Scheduling team and AltaLink Control Center Operators.

Establishing and facilitating growth and development plans for the Outage Scheduling staff.

Identifying and developing solutions to operational problems.

Collaborating with the System Operations leadership team to identify existing and emerging operational issues and develop strategic plans to ensure future success.

Qualifications
Post-secondary education, preferably an Engineering Degree, Technical Diploma or equivalent.

Several years experience in real-time power system operations and/or power system engineering.

Proven formal or informal leadership experience and skill.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills along with a strong team spirit.

Excellent problem solver coupled with a proven ability to lead groups involved in fast paced, high-pressure environments.
