part time Part Time Adult Care Worker

The Calgary Drop In & Rehab Centre is a leader in our community. We lead in serving up to 1250 Calgarians each day, we lead in the provision of support services to people seeking rehabilitation, Supportive Housing, career training, medical services, and assisted living; and we lead in our dedication to the art of compassion. We operate with 8 multi-use building structures within the city limits. The buildings are a combination of shelter, residential, clinical, office, training, recreational, food service, and meeting spaces.

Reporting to:
Supervisor, Supportive Housing

Hours of Work:
We are a 24 hour operation with Morning, Evening and Night shifts. Preference will be given to people who are willing to work overnights.

Responsibilities
•Schedules and supervises the issuing of clothing and hygienic goods to clients
•Assists clients with social, recreational, and personal needs and where possible further training/program options for clients
•Assists other staff with serving meals, cleaning and maintenance of the Centre, client service needs, etc.
•Carries out management instructions and objectives at all times
•Supervises the receipt and storage of food, clothing and other donations and ensures adequate information is received from donors so they may be appropriately thanked
•Advises the supervisor and other care workers of any disciplinary action which may be required with reference to client behaviour
•Supports other care workers with difficult clientele if and when the need arises
•Refers clients to other community services or links clients to our counselling department if there are special needs or circumstances
•Respectfully advocates on behalf of clients with external service providers
•Makes every effort to understand the client, his' her needs, and assesses what options might best suit their needs toward independence
•Where appropriate, maintain a record of client referrals, incidents, requests for special services and progress, and file this information under the client file system
•Attend staff meetings as scheduled by the Supervisor, Senior management, and Directors.
•Performs other related duties that are approved by Supervisor.

Qualifications and Key Skills
•Two (2) years experience in the Human Services field and supervisory experience (combination of education/practical experience will be considered)
•Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with several priorities at the same time
•Strong strategically-focused analytical skills, good common sense; and capacity to provide leadership
•Well-developed inter-personal and conflict resolution and negotiating skills
•Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
•Computer skills including familiarity with word processing, database, and Internet
