Junior Associate - Boutique Corporate/Commercial Firm (Kelowna)

What are we looking for?
As a junior associate, your role will involve undertaking a wide range of commercial and corporate transactional work. You will ideally have a general corporate/commercial background, most likely from a leading city or national firm, will be articling and have a strong academic profile, or are recently called and have undertaken a fair amount of corporate/commercial work during your articles with a recognized commercial law firm. We are willing to teach you, but it would be an asset if you've already had experience in one or more of the following: corporate finance, acquisitions and disposals, due diligence, company formations, commercial contracts and some intellectual property/information technology work. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to work to demanding targets and to offer the highest possible standard of client care. In short, the ideal candidate will have the following traits:
1. An articling student, recently called to the bar or junior associate (1-2 year call).
2. Wants to gain valuable experience and skills in the corporate/commercial area of practice.
3. Lives in Kelowna or is tired of the rain and would like to live in the Okanagan.
4. Appreciates the high quality work you'd typically find at a large national firm, but doesn't want to work at a big firm.
5. Has an entrepreneurial bent.
6. Is willing to travel, as necessary.
7. Wants to work directly with interesting clients.

While we are located in sunny Kelowna and love the beach as much as the next lawyer, but we are a fast-paced, dynamic practice where the client is always first. Contrary to popular belief, we don't leave the office at 3pm every day -- our practice is demanding, but extremely rewarding. We won't expect you to work the same hours as you would in a large, downtown Vancouver firm -- but make no mistake about it, we DO work hard. During a closing, that would mean working some evenings and possibly some weekends. That being said, you would be part of a collaborative team in a non-competitive, but driven, atmosphere.
Who will I be working with?
You will be working directly with two partners here in the Kelowna office - both of whom have moved from Vancouver. We both have experience at large national law firms and have also worked as in-house counsel to North American and International corporations.
