Senior Development Officer

Primary Responsibilities
?Plan, direct and implement a comprehensive fund development work plan. Including setting and achieving annual goals for contributed income.
?Responsible for taking a leadership role in donor identification and cultivation; develop an annual giving program and oversee the building and maintenance of relationships.
?Develop and implement solicitation goals and strategies for an annual giving program, major gifts, direct mail, donor campaigns and corporate sponsorships; and provide leadership and coordination to ensure these goals are met.
?Develop strategies to retain existing donors, increase the number of new donors and to reclaim lapsed donors.
?Support the Executive Director to build and sustain relationships with current, new and potential organizations and individuals.
?Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects and actively use the electronic donor tracking systems to track gifts, donors, sponsors and prospects.
?Responsible for writing fund/grant applications and seeking out opportunities in conjunction with appropriate team areas and the Executive Director.
Skills
?Strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising with demonstrated success in soliciting and securing major gifts.
?Goal-oriented, persistent and persuasive in the contact, follow-through and completion of acquiring gifts and sponsorships.
?Understand the confidential nature of fundraising efforts and donor information, and maintains confidences.
?Demonstrates success in donor and community relationship development.
?The ability to motivate and engage sponsors and donors to achieve an effective working relationship.
?Demonstrated success in meeting annual fund raising goals, development management, grant writing and sponsorships.
?Ability to lead multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines and work well under pressure.
?Ability to follow direction, plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work schedule.
?Demonstrate critical thinking; make decisions and solve problems independently, effectively and creatively.
?Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
?Ability to present, inform and motivate individuals and groups about AIDS Calgary's mission and philanthropy.
Qualifications
?University Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Business Administration, or Fund Development Certification/a combination of education and experience will also be considered
?Three or more years of nonprofit fund development experience with increasing levels of responsibility and a proven track record of outstanding results.
?Good understanding of the nonprofit sector.
?Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
?Experience working in a development role within a health care setting.
?Experience with electronic donor tracking systems, Raiser's Edge and BIGOnline database is preferred.
?Membership of Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP) is preferred.
?Accreditation in Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) is preferred.
?Supervisory skills are an asset.
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time position (35 hours a week). A flexible schedule including; day and occasional evening/weekend availability is required. This position will report to the Executive Director.
