Accounting Bookkeeper
Icefield Helicopter Tours Inc. and Kananaskis Heli Tours Inc. are privately owned, incorporated heli-sightseeing tour companies operating in the province of Alberta. We are seeking a bookkeeper with in-depth bookkeeping and basic accounting experience to maintain our accounting records (using Simply Accounting) and to support the organizations' accounting requirements.
The book-keeper will work in cooperation, and with support from, the Senior Vice President, Operations & Finance. Due to the extent and multifaceted components of our services and operations, the books of account for Icefield Helicopter Tours Inc. and Kananaskis Heli Tours Inc. are complex and require a high level of experience, especially in working with international clients, and an in-depth accounting knowledge.
The bookkeeper should have a solid understanding of the organization's operations and management, and some of its more complex financial management and accounting issues. The bookkeeper will spend considerable time working independently and will need to understand complex accounting policies and procedures, and be able to stay on top of the fast-paced and intricate operations within the organization.
Roles/Responsibilities
• Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
• Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements
• Calculate and prepare cheques for payrolls and for utility, tax and other bills
• Complete and submit tax remittance forms, workers' compensation forms, pension contribution forms, and other government documents
• Complete EFT transfer for payroll and bill payment
• Reconcile ledgers, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and bank and VISA accounts
• Prepare tax returns and perform other personal bookkeeping services
• Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports
• Maintain books of account (including but not limited to preparing cheques, coding and posting invoices, preparing deposits, journal entries, reconciliations, petty cash).
• Oversee issuing of cheques/payment of invoices.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly financial statements for project staff, Senior Vice President, Operations & Finance and Board of Directors.
• Liaise with project staff and support them in book-keeping needs related to their program areas.
• Maintain a series of accounting/book-keeping spreadsheets.
• Oversee accounts receivable.
• Complete all payroll functions.
• Oversee cash flow requirements with the guidance of the Senior Vice President, Operations & Finance.
• Complete GST reports and process payments.
• Oversee internal system of handling funds.
• Maintain year-end working papers and spreadsheets, and assist with preparation for any audits
or independent reviews with support from the Senior Vice President, Operations & Finance.
• Complete monthly reconciliation for all accounts.
• Exert care and control over companies' assets and records and establish procedures for safeguarding, including security and computer backup (copy virus checked and stored off-site)
• Assist in maintaining policy and procedure documentation for financial and accounting issues
• Provide technical support (including software updates, trouble-shooting and back-ups)
• Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the organization's books of
• account
• Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial and bookkeeping
• Maintain up-to-date, complete and systematic filing system to support book-keeping and
financial records
• Maintain full-cycle accounting records and financial statements.
Qualifications
• Completion of a university or college program in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field; or
• Completion of two years (first level) of a recognized professional accounting program (e.g. Chartered Accounting, Certified General Accounting); or
• Courses in accounting or bookkeeping combined with several years of experience as a financial or accounting clerk are required
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline a definite asset
• Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping experience including more advanced/involved aspects of bookkeeping and financial and managerial accounting.

• Fast learner and team player
• Competence in Simply Accounting, Microsoft Office and other basic computer skills
• Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic environment and supervising a team a definite asset
