A celebrated and award-winning theatre company based in Calgary, Alberta, Sage Theatre produces evocative professional theatre in an intimate environment. We are passionate about providing local theatre professionals and talented emerging artists with opportunities to tell stories that speak to the human condition. We proudly fulfill our mandate with a full season of three mainstage productions and IGNITE!: Calgary’s Festival for Emerging Artists, all produced out of the historic Pumphouse Theatre.
We are looking for a new General Manager with the passion and commitment to help drive Sage Theatre’s continued success. Responsible for the financial, administrative and operational management of the company, the General Manager reports to the Board of Directors and works in close collaboration with the Artistic Director to fulfill Sage Theatre’s mandate.
This position requires a committment of approximately 4-5 days per week and requires the flexibility to attend meetings and work outside of regular office hours during busy periods. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Financial management and administration.
- Development of operation and production budgets.
- Regular financial reporting to the Board of Directors.
- Fund development (in cooperation with the Board of Directors and Fund Development Committee).
- Grant writing and liaison with funding agencies.
- Fostering relationships with public and private funders, audiences and other stakeholders.
- Overseeing communication, marketing and promotion of the company, shows and ancillary events.
- Attendance at monthly Board, Fund Development and other committee meetings.
- Contracting artistic, production and administrative personnel.
- Participating in strategic and operational planning.
The ideal candidate will have some combination of an arts administration diploma or degree and/or arts administration experience; strong financial, organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills (marketing and communications, and grant writing experience would be a plus); experience working with a Board of Directors; the ability to work autonomously and to take initiative; good knowledge of Alberta and Canada’s theatre industry as well as a passion for the arts; and the ability to assume a strong leadership role.
